The building has been the seat of the Court of Justice since 1968. With the proclamation of 1937, the Ministry of Public Works, in the direct interest of the Head of State, wanted to give Forlì a permanent seat for the entire judicial organization. Two whole blocks of ancient buildings were demolished and via Bagnola was completely obliterated in order to imitate the monumentality imposed by Piacentini on the Palace of Justice in Milan. The two-tone coloring of the porphyry basement and the Lombard cladding, which should have interacted with the austere ancient terracotta of the bell tower and the apse of the monumental complex of S. Mercuriale, was replaced by a simple plaster and travertine basement due to the difficulties caused by the war. The use of inferior materials, however, also seemed to be proposed in the design of the interior, as a general degradation of the austerity and monumentality of the whole building. Work was interrupted by the fate of the war, leaving an enormous building without any finish.
How to get there:
The building is located in the center, adjacent to Piazza Saffi, with which it communicates through the cloister of the Basilica of San Mercuriale.
