Premilcuore is situated on the right bank of the Rabbi river, between the two foothills of the Alpe di San Benedetto and the Mount Falterona.
A small mountain village, from 1100 it was a fief of the Counts of Guidi, who bound its citizens to their feud until the advent of the Florentine Republic. Today Premilcuore is a busy town, a destination for tourists who love nature and the silence of the ancient woods.
The walled village, accessible only through two gates (the Sotto Gate to the north, demolished in the past, and the Fiorentina Gate to the south, which still exists but has been restored), preserves the medieval center almost intact, dominated by the remains of the ancient fortress.
It is one of the gateways to the Casentino Forests National Park, Monte Falterona, Campigna, an ideal starting point for hiking and horseback riding.
Places to visit: the Rocca, the precious Palazzo Briccolani, the elegant Palazzo Giannelli, the Oratory of San Lorenzo, the Oratory of Mogio, the Pieve di San Martino. Premilcuore is also home to the Museum of Fauna and Water, within the Visitor Center of the Casentino Forest National Park.
How to get there: About 41 km from Forlì along the Rabbi provincial road 3.
