The church lies north of the town of Castrocaro Terme, nearby the road leading to the salsojodic springs.
In the 15th century, The Castrocaro Guild of the Wool Art erected the Church with a convent annexed to it, first a Camaldolese convent, then a convent of the Good Jesus Congregation of Ravenna.
When the latter order was suppressed in 1651, the church was given in commendation.
The current building was constructed in the years 1739-52 by the Lombard expert Carlo Ghisi, resident in Ravenna. It is an interesting example of eighteenth-century architecture with an octagonal plan.
