The Loggias in Via Garibaldi were built in 1800 and were mainly meant to host the silk market, which took place annually at the beginning of July.
At that time, indeed, in the town of Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole almost all families carried out this trade: it is estimated that in the year 1895 the sale of silk recorded in the market of Castrocaro exceeded 300 quintals. Production was quite lucrative to the point that it was the custom of asking well-dressed people, “have you sold silk?”.
Under one of the arches, a plaque recalls that a terrible and bloody episode occurred at this loggia during the Resistance: on 18 August 1944, the fascist militia of the “IX Settembre” Battalion, the partisan leaders Adriano Casadei and Silvio Corbari were hanged.
How to get there: By car SS n° 67 Tosco-Romagnola, 10 km from Forli.
