Predappio is historically the ‘cradle’ of Sangiovese, a full-bodied red wine obtained from the Sangiovese di Romagna clone that is the basis of the great Italian reds (Brunello, Chianti). Sangiovese, the Romagna wine par excellence, has found in Predappio a highly productive area: think of the cellars of the Zoli family in Predappio Alta, now a wine museum and used for wine production since the 15th century.
In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the municipal statutes required the vineyards in the valley around the Predappio castle to be fenced in. In 1889, the Campi di Villa Raggi estate won a prestigious prize at the Paris Universal Exhibition for the high quality of its Sangiovese.
In addition to these episodes, we must also pay tribute to the generations of winemakers who, over the centuries, have brought prestige to the Sangiovese of Predappio, making it one of the most typical products of our territory.
Today, the vitality of the Predappio terroir is testified by the presence of numerous wineries (both historic and recently established) that produce an excellent Sangiovese, with all the prerequisites to increase its diffusion far beyond the borders of our territory.

In this context, the major producers have joined together to form the ‘Terre di Predappio’ Association for the promotion of Sangiovese di Predappio, which aims to spread and promote the culture, knowledge and image of Sangiovese di Predappio. Today the Producers’ Association has taken the name ‘Terre di Predappio’ and is made up of 13 companies, different in size and production types but united by a common desire to promote and publicise not only Sangiovese but also and above all the territory where it is produced, aware of its uniqueness and originality.
