Home of an ancient noble family
The imposing palace, although altered over the centuries, stands on the ancient houses of the Mainardi family, testifying to the influence and authority that the family had achieved in Bertinoro during the Middle Ages.
Among the most important members of the family are Arrigo Mainardi, bitterly regretted by Guido del Duca as he appears in Canto XIV of Purgatory, and Ricciardo, protagonist of a novella in the Decameron. The family coat of arms composed of three hands still stands out on its façade.
