Forlì’s Monumental Cemetery is a place rich in history and stories, a great ‘metropolis of silence’ that brings together significant monuments and architecture and condenses the memories of numerous citizens from the second half of the 19th century to the present day: politicians, men of letters, painters, notables, doctors, scientists, composers and musicians, artists, industrialists, Garibaldians, and heroes of the two world wars.
Acknowledged by the Emilia-Romagna Region as a “monumental and historic cemetery” pursuant to Regional Law 21/2022, as a significant example of the region’s cultural heritage, it brings together marble and bronze works by important sculptors and architects, in a journey from late 19th century realism, to the Art Nouveau and Symbolism of the early 20th century, to the subsequent trends from the 1930s to the present day.
