A walk around the castle

A historical and cultural itinerary to discover the enchanting medieval village of Castrocaro Terme. The departure point is in front of the entrance to the Terme, from here you reach Piazza Mazzini and continue along Via delle Sorgenti and Via della Fratta. From the beginning of Via Bagnolo, the road begins to climb, skirting the ancient walls and the Fortress. After 1 km, just passing the aqueduct depot, turn left and descend along a slightly uneven trail. After about 100 meters, on the right you can see the remains of the ancient tower that defended the Porta dell’Olmo (Elm Gate), while the imposing maschio (oldest tower of the fortress) dominates on the left. Proceeding another 100 meters, the asphalt road begins, leading into the historic center, where you can admire the Porta di S. Giovanni gate, the Bell Tower and, at the end of Via Porta dell’Olmo (on the left side), the Palazzo dei Commissari. Proceeding to the right along Via S. Antonio you pass near the ancient church of S. Nicolò. Having passed through the door of the same name, on the left of the external façade of the church there is the Dante plaque. Continue along Via Garibaldi to return to the entrance of the Spa.
