Built between 1833 and 1840 according to the project of the municipal architect Giacomo Santarelli, it is located on the site of the ancient church of San Francesco Grande, which was demolished to build the new structure. The main function of the building was the weekly market, which took place in Misura Square every Monday and Friday.
The architectural complex is characterized by a square enclosed on two opposite sides by two buildings that use the pre-existing structures of the convent. The third side is delimited by a new building with a seven-arched portico.
On the building’s second floor, some windows are decorated with bas-reliefs by sculptor Luigi Righi depicting personifications of the Ronco and Montone rivers. An elegant semicircular portico, supported by Tuscan columns, which once housed the fish market, is located at the rear of the building.
The Foro Annonario, besides being an important center for trade and exchange, is a remarkable example of neoclassical architecture in Forli’s context, enriched with artistic details that reveal the care and attention paid to its realization.

The covered market is located in Piazza Cavour, easily reached on foot from Piazza Saffi.
Parking is available at Cavour 1 and 2 for a fee.
