The association organizes various types of events throughout the year.
How to get there: From Forlì, take the Bidente provincial road no. 4 for about 32 km.
The Civitella carnival has very ancient origins. In the 17th century it represented the last bastion of merriment before the rigors of Lent. In more modern guise, it was relaunched in the 1960s.
The festival is full of floats, colorful masks, good music, dancing, entertainment, sweet delicacies and excellent gastronomy. The parades are organised by the Associazione Carnevale Civitellese together with the Pro Loco, with the patronage of the municipality. It usually takes place on the Sunday before Shrove Tuesday or, in case of bad weather, on the following Sunday.
The feast of Epiphany is a tradition celebrated on 5 January, a day when groups of children, adults and the elderly gather in the streets of Civitella to sing stornelli dressed as witches. The feast involves all ages celebrating continuously from morning to night and ends with the descent of the befana from the civic tower followed by fireworks.
The Saints’ Fair is organized every year on 1 November. The event is dedicated to agriculture, crafts and trade and keeps alive an ancient custom of holding the year’s biggest market precisely on the Feast of the Saints. Civitella’s square and historic center are filled with food stands, clothing stands, and a variety of other items. In addition, people can see the traditional exhibition of cattle, pigs and sheep.
The cherry festival is usually held on the last two Sundays of June, and it celebrates the flavor of a typical Civitella fruit, in its morette, morandine, durone and cornine varieties, widely appreciated outside its boundaries.
Having a cherry tree is a tradition for the people of Civitella, as is the harvesting of the fruit.
This festival, which livens up the streets and squares of Civitella, is an excellent opportunity to celebrate with free cherry tastings, food stands, music as well as to rediscover the flavours of the past.
The truffle festival is held on the second and third Sundays of November in Cusercoli. The event takes place in the town center, where kiosks and food stands are set up, rich in truffle-based recipes such as crostini, polenta, egg and truffle and traditional Romagna first courses.
A wide selection of truffle products can be found at the seekers’ stalls, while along the streets of the village, a variety of merchandise is displayed.
Numerous prizes are awarded for the most fragrant truffle and the largest truffle found, the oldest truffle hunter, as well as the classic competition rewarding the largest truffle collected in the Bidente Valley. Entertainment and animation are also planned.
The blackthorn festival is held on the second and third Sundays in May and aims to enhance, rediscover and make known the flavor of this spring mushroom. Blackthorn is known for its scent reminiscent of fresh flour and for its particular form in which it grows among the fields, in large circles or long zigzag rows.
The festival takes place from morning to evening in the center of Cusercoli.
During the event, gastronomic stands selling the product directly (lasagne, polenta, tagliolini, eggs and scaloppine al prugnolo) are set up, as well as itinerant musical performances through the streets around the village.
It is worth mentioning, however, the mushroom the “Plant and Mushroom Nature Trail”, a didactic route along the path leading through the woods near the village, designed to make people familiar with mushrooms and nature. Visitors can see the hanging gardens of Cusercoli Castle as well.
