The Assisi Path links the Hermitage of Montepaolo in Dovadola, where St. Anthony had his first Italian residence between 1221 and 1222, and the Basilica of Assisi, where his remains have been kept since 1230.
More than 300 kilometres, 12 stages, 3 regions: Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria with all their peculiarities…
On the first stage, we cross the Sacred Forests of the Casentino Forests National Park, which in 2017 were named a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO Commission.
The itinerary is characterised by uncontaminated and unique places, such as the Hermitage of Camaldoli, where silence knows how to speak to the soul.
You will reach La Verna, the sanctuary where Francis received the stigmata; and the ascent to Sacro Monte, the highest point of spiritual elevation of the Path.
The last 6 stages leading to Assisi have a more cultural appeal, through towns rich in history such as: Caprese Michelangelo, Sansepolcro, Pietralunga, Città di Castello, Gubbio, home of Michelangelo, Dante, Piero della Francesca, Raphael, Andrea Della Robbia and many others.
The journey ends in Assisi, where one has the opportunity to collect the Assisian, the document that certifies the completion of the journey.
This journey leads to the search for oneself, to the discovery of one’s humanity and inner strength: a unique journey, a bit challenging but with well-marked and safe paths.
In order to be able to do the walk, it is necessary to register via an email form at info@camminodiassisi.it.
The membership fee is 15 euro and entitles you to receive (in the town of Dovadola) the credential, the detailed guide of the daily stages of the walk, the GPX tracks (although the path is already well marked) and the list of institutional refuges.
Places available are limited, but through registration the refuges are all forewarned of the transit of pilgrims.
It is important to contact the refuge the evening before your arrival.
Some refuges are run directly by volunteers from the Cammino di Assisi association, others are self-managed (with use of the kitchen), and others may be privately run, or may be convents.
The contribution is 8/10 euro for sleeping only and 20/25 euro for overnight stay including dinner and breakfast.
