The route takes us to visit ancient places of faith and pilgrimage destinations on the way to Rome since the Middle Ages.
Itinerary: Village of Pianetto – Cellette Trail – Abbey of S. Ellero
Season: All year round
Itinerary detail
The itinerary begins with a visit to the church of St. Mary of the Miracles in Pianetto, inside which is preserved an image of the Madonna who, in the late 15th century was seen weeping and pouring milk-like drops from her breast. The image is venerated in a small temple adorned with elegant sculptural decorations in sandstone.
A visit to the ‘Mons. Domenico Mambrini’ civic museum in Pianetto is also recommended, inside which sculptural finds from S. Ellero are preserved (especially the relief of the meeting between S. Ellero and Teoderico).
Returning to Galeata (about 1 km), one encounters the entrance to the Cellette path with the fourteen sandstone aedicules of the Via Crucis (40-minute walk). At the end of the footpath stands the abbey church of St. Ellero (currently under restoration), inside which is preserved the sarcophagus containing the mortal remains of the saint. The church can also be reached by car through the road that connects Galeata to the church (about 3 km).
Organization: Parish of S. Pietro in Bosco in Galeata
