Truffle Fair and Festival Events Dovadola On Sunday 18 and Sunday 25 October, the traditional Truffle Fair and Festival returns to Dovadola. The event celebrates the truffle and other local products, including mushrooms, honey, cheeses, wine and cured meats, while also showcasing the beauty of this charming town in Romagna. The streets of the town centre will come alive with stalls featuring street vendors, local farmers and producers, as well as the truffle market. Visitors can taste the local specialities that have made this festival famous, including tagliatelle, traditionally handmade by local sfogline (pasta makers), along with many other delicacies such as polenta, crostini, eggs, panzerotti, sausage, spit-roasted meat, traditional Romagna piadina, fried piadina and local wines. In Piazza Marconi, a special jury will award prizes to the finest truffles.

Sagra della Castagna (Chestnut Festival) Events Premilcuore On Sunday, October 11 and Sunday, October 18, the traditional Sagra della Castagna (Chestnut Festival) returns to Premilcuore. A celebration dedicated to chestnuts, their harvest and the many traditional products made from this symbol of the autumn season. Roasted, baked into castagnaccio or simply boiled, chestnuts can be enjoyed with excellent Sangiovese wine, surrounded by the colourful autumn landscape of the surrounding mountains. The festival winds through the streets of the village, offering a wide selection of traditional local specialities, including cappelletti, polenta, tortelli alla lastra, fried piadina and grilled meats. On Sunday, October 11, the festival will also feature the Sagra del Raviggiolo, celebrating Raviggiolo, a traditional cheese from the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines and a prestigious Slow Food Presidia product. The day will also include entertainment, inflatable games for children and demonstrations of traditional crafts. On Sunday, October 18, the programme will feature the traditional pig slaughtering ceremony (masè è porc), a historic local tradition involving the processing of pork into sausages, steaks, chops, ciccioli and coppa di testa (musotto). The entertainment programme is equally rich, with performances by the Carrettieri band featuring the traditional sciucarén, Romagna folk dancers and guided walks to the chestnut grove, where visitors can discover the local chestnut-harvesting tradition accompanied by local guides.

A dedicated area with tables and seating will also be available, providing the perfect place to enjoy these delicious treats together. The day will also feature a local handicraft and food market, as well as live music from the “C. Roveroni” Band of Santa Sofia, performing throughout the town. The Sagra del Tortello alla lastra is part of FESTASAGGIA, an initiative organised by Pro Loco Santa Sofia that celebrates the local area by promoting its local products, cuisine and traditions.

Bartolaccio Fair
Bartolaccio Fair Events Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole On Sunday 1 and Sunday 8 November, the 40th Bartolaccio Fair arrives in Tredozio. The fair is dedicated to the flavours of the ancient Tosco-Romagnolo tradition and in particular to the ‘Bartolaccio’ (‘e bartlàz), a tortello filled with boiled potatoes, pork belly, parmesan cheese and pecorino cheese cooked on the grill, an original local speciality. Accompanying this delicacy will be other typical local dishes, such as polenta col cinghiale (polenta with wild boar), paciarella, and chestnut desserts. In addition to great food, there will be a photographic exhibition and a market in the streets of the village, where it will be possible to buy gastronomic and handicraft products. Entertainment is guaranteed thanks to the performances of street artists!

Grotta Urlante (Screaming Cave) 1 Nature and Outdoor Premilcuore Located in the Casentino Forest National Park, the Screaming Cave is characterised by a waterfall formed by the Rabbi river that creates a powerful and evocative sound, hence the name. Under a 17th-century stone bridge, two pools form, ideal for swimming and relaxing in the clear, cool waters.This enchanting place was celebrated in the book ‘Wild swimming Italy’ and gained international fame after a 2015 article in the British press. Nearby, campsites, B&Bs and typical trattorias have sprung up, offering a perfect welcome for visitors, while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for a peaceful day out, especially on weekdays. How to reach the Grotta Urlante (Screaming Cave): take the SP25 road, pass Premilcuore and follow the signs for Giumella. A short path leads to Ponte Nuovo, from where a side path leads to the cave in a few minutes. GPS coordinates 43.9671, 11.7614 can be used to facilitate arrival. Near the cave, along the course of the river, there are other natural pools and the impressive Cascata della Sega waterfall. It is recommended that you bring suitable shoes, a mackintosh, a cap, water and a packed lunch in order to enjoy the day to the full, while respecting the environment. The area offers further natural and historical attractions, such as the Verna Sanctuary and the Hermitage of Camaldoli, which are well worth a visit.
