Palazzo Piancastelli was built in 1718 by the Conti family on the foundations of the ancient Hospital of Santa Maria della Misericordia owned by the Camaldolese monks.

Completed by Bartolomeo Conti in 1718, the palace then passed into the ownership of various families, including the Piancastelli family of Fusignano, from which it took the name it holds today.

At the beginning of 1920 it was purchased by Aristide Conti ( Chairman of the Committee Pro-Restoration of the Town Hall in Castrocaro) to give it to the Municipal Administration for free use; on 5 April 1925 it was used as the seat of the Municipality of Castrocaro e Terra del Sole.

In 1938, following its relocation to the new Town Hall, built about halfway between Castrocaro and Terra del Sole, the State Property Office (the new owner) carried out a general restoration in Tuscan style.

At the entrance to the palace, in Via Garibaldi, you can admire notable frescoes by the Tuscan artist Tito Chini in art-deco style: his usual theme of the fountain, from which thin, silvery threads of water flow, is repeated, the sky is furrowed by the typical balloon clouds topped by multicolored garlands with flowers and fruit, and in the background you can glimpse Castrocaro landscapes.

The staircase is scenic and masterly too, embellished by the lively chromaticism of the backgrounds, the ceramic columns of the parapet and the large skylight above.

Weekday and holiday opening hours: Can only be visited externally

Directions: By car 10 km from Forlì, SS 67 Tosco-Romagnola.

Additional notes: Currently, the building houses on the upper floors the management of Terme di Castrocaro, which owns the building.
