Palazzo Comunale, seat of the Town Hall, was built around the ancient tower in the year 1000 and gradually extended towards the abbey courtyard. In 1412 it became home to the Ordelaffi family, and over the centuries it has undergone various modifications and extensions. The current façade, the work of engineers Gottardo Perseguiti and Giovanni Bertoni, dates from the time of Cardinal Sanseverino, papal legate (1812-1826). Inside, the grand staircase leads to a narrow gallery from which you can access the various rooms, all richly frescoed, on the first floor. Of particular interest is the Sala del Consiglio Comunale or Sala dei Fasti, designed by Bibiena (1761). The paintings are skilfully placed in an architectural trompe l’oeil context, depicting columns, balconies, balustrades, windows and cornices. Inside the palace there are frescoes by Felice Giani (1809) and Francesco Menzocchi (1563). Behind the Palazzo Comunale, in the elegant Piazzetta della Misura, is the Torre Civica. Built at an uncertain date, it was toppled in 1944 by the retreating Germans, who also swept away and completely destroyed the Civic Theatre. Rebuilt in 1977, it can only be visited from the outside.

Located in Piazza Saffi, at the end of Corso della Repubblica, it can be reached by bus (lines 1, 2, 3, 4) and by car (there are paid car parks nearby in Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza del Carmine).
