Piazzale di Porta Ravaldino, at the end of Corso Diaz, is one of the entrances to the Ravaldino Canal, which in the Middle Ages crossed the city under the open sky and has long since been almost completely covered.
With a length of 1,895 meters, it crosses the city from the Ravaldino Gate to the north-western end of the historical center: the average width of the canal is 4-5 meters and its average height is 2-3 meters. Via Duca Valentino, Via Trieste and Via Caterina Sforza: this is the first section of the canal that remained uncovered until the end of the 19th century, when it fed a public washhouse and the Faliceto mill. In ancient times, the canal served eight flour mills along its 23 kilometers.
