The parish church is part of the cemetery complex of S. Cassiano, which in the early thirties of the last century underwent an expansion and a reconstruction. The first mentions of the parish church date back to 1001, but according to popular tradition, the religious complex was built in the 5th century A.D. at the behest of Galla Placidia, daughter of Emperor Theodosius, who ruled the Western Roman Empire from Ravenna. Over the years it has undergone several renovations, the last of which (from 1930 to 1934) has preserved the Romanesque profile of the church with a stylistic reconstruction by the architects Icchia and Corsini.
