The palace was built in the 13th-14th centuries, at the time of the second expansion of the  Fortress.

It was a feudal residence and belonged to the so-called Counts of Castrocaro.

The thick construction, partly in terracotta and partly in ashlars of spungone stone, is divided into two  levels. The six rooms on the ground floor house the Castle Museum, with weapons,  majolica, coins, medieval and Renaissance furniture and furnishings.

On the upper floor one finds beautiful reception rooms, including the charming Loggia dei Cavalieri, facing south, from which one can observe the enchanting panorama of the valley of the  Montone valley.

The north side houses the Stanza del Castellano, with antique furnishings and fittings; in the room there is a beautiful 15th-century Tuscan-style fireplace, formed of stone elements sandstone.

Beside the fireplace you can admire a valuable painting in tempera on panel, with a gold background.

Next to the fireplace, one can admire a valuable tempera painting on wood, with a gold background. This work dates back to the early 15th century, in International Gothic style, probably from the workshop of Gentile da Fabriano.

The Weapons Hallway follows, where swords, halberds and other antique weapons are on display, including a very rare 14th-century bombardelle manesca and a bone flask for gunpowder.

Passing through the two large arches made of local stone, one reaches the Salone dell’Affresco, (Fresco Hall), whose name comes from the presence of a 15th-century fresco by the so-called Maestro  of Castrocaro, depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints, from the  Palace itself. The coffered ceiling is partly original.

The room is also known as the Sala del Tribunale, in memory of its use during the Angevin period. Periodically, various cultural events take place there: musical performances, conventions, exhibitions, conferences, food and wine workshops.

Next door, a fine hall houses the Enoteca, where one can find delicious wines and  other gastronomic specialities of the area, whose producers are part of the Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli di Forlì e Cesena.
