Numai Tower and Palace

The tower house belonged to the ancient and powerful Ghibelline Numai family, the only one that has survived among the many erected in the city. The tower visible today is the result of a massive restoration. The building, realized between the 14th and the 15th century, was extensively renovated by Pino Numai a hundred years later. The beautiful ” diamond-shaped ” Renaissance portal stands out against the austere façade in local terracotta, the lower part of which has the typical medieval cornice. Inside, there is an elegant 15th century courtyard with a portico on three sides made up of stone columns with Corinthian capitals. Some traces of the earlier 14th-century portico are still visible, which were uncovered during the recent restoration. Some rooms on the ground floor are noteworthy, with different vaults and Numai coats of arms, referring to Pino and Alexander.
