The village of Mortano has a special history compared to that of S. Sofia, because the two centres (now a single village) were part of two different states and then two different provinces: S. Sofia in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany (and until 1923 in the Province of Florence), while Mortano in the Papal State (and in the Province of Forlì). Piazza Mortani is dominated by the imposing Palazzo Bianchini – Mortani, a residence of probable medieval origins. In the same hamlet there are the two small churches of S. Filippo Neri (17th century) and S. Francesco d’Assisi (next to the Mortani palace).
How to get there:
S. Sofia is 40 km from Forlì, along Provincial Road no. 4 del Bidente (from Piazza Matteotti in S. Sofia, the current bridge over the Bidente leads to the village of Mortano).
