The villa was built in the eighteenth century by Cardinal Raggio, from whom it takes its name, in the middle of a large park of cypresses, pines, poplars and acacias, with a huge cedar tree. The three-storey house has a bust of Garibaldi on its façade, surmounted by a plaque commemorating the hospitality offered to the hero during his flight after the fall of the Roman Republic.
The interior is richly furnished with gilded chairs, mirrors, 18th century cupboards, Murano chandeliers, portraits and landscape paintings. The ceiling beams of the hall and of some rooms are decorated with sober stucco mouldings of the eighteenth century. During the last war, the villa was on the Gothic line and suffered all sorts of occupations: the Germans called it the “iron house” because it was so solid, with walls up to 120 cm thick. Inside the park there is a well-defined area with a table and some stone seats, where, according to a legend, whoever enters acquires the right of asylum.
How to get there: The villa is located in Colmano, in the direction of Castrocaro Terme.
