On 11 December 2011, the Riserva Storica dei Sangiovesi di Romagna was inaugurated. The project aims to build and preserve the memory of one of the most important wines of the Romagna, through a selection of bottles representative of the different territories of the specific production area. Inside the Riserva it is possible to compare different vintages and wines from different areas, also identifying the common elements that make up the identity of Sangiovese. The temperature-controlled room becomes a significant stopover for wine professionals, journalists and experts who want to deepen their knowledge of Romagna and Sangiovese. The selection was curated in the early years by Giorgio Melandri, journalist and expert taster, who attempted with his bottles to tell the story of the territory, since it is through promotion of Romagna overall that it is possible to highlight the individual areas.
The selection has been made by sommeliers of the AIS ROMAGNA association for several years now. Annually about 30 different companies operating locally place at least 6 bottles in the Riserva, being handed over by producers, residents and visitors in a long chain, symbolizing the mutual creation of local identity.
