The church was built in the former convent. The convent of the Dominican Sisters was founded in 1658 (the church in 1644) by Costanza Severoli, a noblewoman from Faenza, widow of Cav. Giulio Piazza. After the Napoleonic suppression, in the early 19th century, the convent became municipal property and the seat of the chancellery. In 1859, the building was greatly enlarged and profoundly renovated to be used as a seminary when the Diocese of Modigliana was established. Until that year, the whole territory of Modigliana was part of the Diocese of Faenza.
The premises of the former seminary have housed the “La Modigliana” Retirement Home for some years now.
