The Ex-Food Market, with its columned semicircular structure, dominates the purpose-built square, Piazza Garibaldi. The center is marked by an arch in perspective with the house of birth of Benito Mussolini.
The porticoed exedra was designed to enhance the scenery of Mussolini’s house, so much so that an imposing staircase was built directly from the arch, which led to the Duce’s house, which he himself demolished. The structure was built between 1928 and 1930 to a design by Florestano di Fausto. Today, it contains bas-relief heads of Mercury by the Roman sculptor Ulderigo Conti.
Always open to the public.
