Del Carmine Church

Dating back to the end of the fifteenth century, the church is located in Corso Mazzini 76. Restored in 1735 on a design by Giuseppe Merenda, the building was finished in 1746. The rough and unfinished facade is embellished by a valuable portal in Istrian stone of the fifteenth century, a work by Marco Cedrini made for the main door of the Cathedral from which it was removed in 1841. The portal is surmounted by a lunette with the relief of San Valeriano on horseback surrounded by four Saints. At the top, the coat of arms of the Ordelaffi family, who commissioned the work in 1465. On the left side of the facade there is the Bell Tower, started in 1498. The Church has a single large nave, with five chapels on each side; the pillars, characterized by composite pilasters, support a rich continuous trabeation on which the large barrel vault is set. The walnut choir is very interesting: the lower part, dating back to the 15th century, belongs to the original church, while the remaining parts date back to 1743. Inside the choir there is a copy of the Annunciation by Palmezzano (the original one is in the Art Gallery). On the entrance wall there is a spectacular architectural wooden structure that contains an organ from the mid-1800s. To be noted along Corso Mazzini, at number 43, Casa Pettini-Giovannetti (1840), characterized by an elegant facade realized on a design by Giacomo Santarelli.
