San Michele in Trebbana is an ancient church with an attached rectory. Its foundation dates back to 1063, when the church was donated to San Pier Damiani for the hermits of Gamugno.
Together with the monastery of Gamogna, the complex has always been part of the so-called Piviere di San Valentino, i.e. it was under the jurisdiction of the ancient parish church that united up to 21 parish churches that had been centres of social and religious life in the valleys of Tredozio and Modigliana since the first millennium. That of Trebbana is an ancient church dedicated to St Michael, with a large rectory attached. Its foundation dates back to 1063, when the church was donated to San Pier Damiani for the hermits of Gamugno.
Nearby there is a centuries-old oak tree (whose trunk measures 4.75 metres in circumference), also indicated on cadastral maps and military maps.
Trebbana is now fully usable again, restored and equipped for excursions and refreshments.
In an atmosphere of absolute tranquillity and in a highly evocative natural setting, the hermitage functions as a hospitality centre with the possibility of overnight accommodation and kitchen use for up to 50 people.
How to get there: On the road that goes south from Tredozio towards Mount Tramazzo, 8 km away you can park your car and walk half an hour towards the ridge. The place can also be reached by car via the unpaved road that goes south from Lutirano, 6 km from Tredozio. At Ponte della Valle, the gravel road ends and the inter-modal road that leads to Trebbana and Gamogna begins.
