It is a remarkable construction located at Porta Fiorentina.
The Castle included the Captain’s Quarter with beautifully painted wooden ceilings (a. 1587), the Armoury (a storehouse, with a workshop, of small arms: arquebuses, pikes, halberds, swords, corslets), the Crossing Gallery above and intersecting that of the Gate (which allowed the garrison to move from one Bastion to another without creating servitude to the Castellan), the Guard Corps by day (under the Gate), the Guard Corps by night (in the chamber above the Gate), the Guard Corps at rest (the 14.60 m high pavilion-vaulted hall where the soldiers stood to relieve the change to those guarding the Gate), with military prisons to the side.
The angular, star-shaped interior of the castle is surrounded by a gallery, supported
by stone corbels and terracotta arches, for the use of the sentinel patrolling the castle.
Opening times: Groups (max. 20 people) are allowed to visit only by reservation.
Directions: In the historical centre of Terra del Sole, reachable from Forlì via the SS 67 Tosco Romagnola (9 km).
Additional notes: Currently the Castle of the Captain, privately owned, is beautifully preserved and houses a disco-bar and two restaurants. The rooms of the castle are suitable for ceremonies and meetings.
