The museum, located in a building that once belonged to Antonio Raineri Biscia (1780-1839), contains letters written by Benedetta Bianchi Porro, an extensive bibliography dedicated to her, and works by various artists inspired by her life.
Benedetta Bianchi Porro was born in Dovadola on August 8, 1936. At a young age she was struck by a serious illness; in her suffering she found the consolation of faith, which she joyfully professed until the last days of her life.
In spite of her serious illness, she maintained a rich correspondence with anyone who needed consolation. She died in Sirmione on January 23, 1964 at the age of 27.
After her death, her life and her writings became an example of faith and on December 23, 1993 she was declared Venerable with the promulgation of the Decree of Heroic Virtue by the Church. The museum exhibits works by various artists inspired by Benedetta’s life, including Pietro Annigoni, Angelo Biancini, Francesco Messina, Antonio Berti, Primo Conti, Pericle Fazzini, Bruno Innocenti, Romano Stefanelli and Marcello Tommasi.
Benedetta’s mortal remains, contained in a bronze sarcophagus, rest in the Abbey of St. Andrew, 1 km from the center, founded by Cluniac monks in the 12th century.
It is also possible to consult letters written in her own hand and an extensive bibliography dedicated to her.
