Diving into the waters of Montone

Stage 1 - Portico di Romagna

Starting from Forlì, continuing on via Firenze and along the state road that follows the course of the Montone river for about 40 kilometers, you reach Portico di Romagna, a characteristic village at 309 meters above sea level which has its historic center intact.

After a walk through the streets of the village, those who want to seek refreshment can cross the Ponte della Maestà and head towards the "beach of Portico", commonly called "La Chiusa", where they can find a fantastic waterfall and rocky open spaces to lie down pleasantly in the sun.

Stage 2 - Bocconi

Continuing towards Bocconi, 4 kilometers from Portico di Romagna, you can find other beautiful places to stop and relax in the cool weather.

The most characteristic corner is certainly that of the Brusia Falls, where the Montone river is embraced by a unique three-arched humpback bridge, which takes its name from the waterfall itself.

The flowing waters form natural pools where it is possible to swim, and then dry in the sun on the smooth rock slabs that surround the waterfall or lie down under the trees that offer cool shelter.

For lovers of trekking and walking, two paths depart from the Brusia waterfalls; they give the opportunity to enjoy the wonders of the forest in all seasons.

Stage 3 - Acquacheta Waterfall

Continuing from Bocconi along the road that leads to San Benedetto in Alpe you will find another suggestive place in the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines where you can pleasantly spend your time: the Acquacheta Waterfall. Here the Montone river gives us an enchanting natural swimming pool, dominated by a very high cliff, and a very scenic waterfall 70 meters high.

The notoriety of this waterfall is certainly linked to Dante Alighieri who praises it in the 16th canto of the Inferno of his Divine Comedy. A unique and fascinating place, an unmissable stop for any lover of wild nature.
